Father Mark's Musings
Walk in Love
I have met some generous people during my short time at the Cathedral of Saint James. Generosity is a journey, a practice we learn and nurture within our hearts. Giving away what we have worked hard to acquire or donating our precious time without compensation is not in our nature. It takes something as radical as love to inspire us to share our time, talent, and treasure with others. This is a journey we make together, a Walk in Love.
As we have lived with the Gospel of Mark this year, we have been brought into a world that has turned radically upside down. The laws and customs that had been in place for centuries were challenged, power and dominion were questioned, and a culture hemmed in from all sides by oppression and subjection desperately sought a way forward.
It is not clever politics or force that cause the change in society but the simplest concept of love. Jesus causes a revolution of thought and heart by daring to reach out to the outcast and teach others to do the same. He walks in love with the marginalized, with the poor, with the sick and brings us along with him on his journey.
The most miraculous gift of love is that it was there within us all along; all we had to do was find it, tap into it, and begin growing it. And look what happened? We learned to share, to give, to volunteer, to accompany others, to feed, to pray, to visit, and to strive for change.
Next week, we will kick off our annual Stewardship Campaign. Over the following weeks, we will also share stories of how we Walk in Love with each other. I invite you to share your own stories of inspiration and connection with our shared ministry in this sacred place of the Cathedral of Saint James and with each other. I invite you to Walk in Love.

Children's Formation Sunday Mornings
@ 9:15 am
Growing in our Worship: (Age 3 - Grade 2)
‘Growing in our Worship,’ or GIOW, is a Montessori and liturgically based curriculum. In GIOW, children are invited into a sacred and holy time of listening, praying, reflecting, and singing with other children their age and two adults from the congregation. Each class session includes a liturgy patterned after the one used in our Church service and reading and reflecting on a Bible Story from 'The Jesus Storybook Bible'.
Storymakers (Grades 3 - 6)
'Storymakers' is a rich, imaginative curriculum that equips families and children to share in God’s story through storytelling and art. In the Fall of 2024, we will explore the Promised Land.
