Opportunities In South Bend

The City of South Bend, Coordinator for the Homeless, has a very organized website where those in need can seek assistance, and volunteers can submit their names to see where they may best be of service. Just click on the link, and you will see their list of services in both list format and through an interactive map. If you would like to volunteer, please click here.

Care & Share

Crop Hunger Walk

Each quarter, an organization or cause is identified as a beneficiary of Care & Share. Examples include Episcopal Relief, St. Margaret’s House, Puerto Rico hurricane relief, and Habitat for Humanity. Donations can be made by using the Care & Share envelopes in the pews or through an electronic donation using Givelify.

Walk. Give. Change the World.

St. James Cathedral is participating in the 2023 CROP Hunger Walk to support CWS and help families who are struggling with hunger. Please join us - with your steps and your donations - to provide more meals for the growing number of people in our community who need them, and create greater food security in communities around the world.

Dean’s Discretionary Fund

The Dean’s Discretionary Fund allow our clergy to help members of our parish and those in need in our surrounding community by providing them with assistance though items such as Martin’s gift cards.

Habitat for Humanity

The Cathedral of Saint James supports Habitat for Humanity with their Matthew 25 build. This is done through raising money through Care & Share as well as our annual Chili Cook-off! In addition to monetary support, we also participate in building the homes.

Madison School Shoe Project

The Madison School Shoe Project was started by the Cathedral’s chapter of the Daughters of the King. Growing from year to year, we now provide new shoes for every student at Madison Primary Center.

Schools are back in session! We are gearing up to purchase shoes for the students at Madison STEAM Academy. Rick Hilliard is seeking volunteers to purchase shoes (we pay for them, we just
need you to shop for them). Contact Rick for details. Don't know Rick? Ask Fr. Brian or Deacon Anne for contact information.

The Cathedral of Saint James proudly houses St. Margaret’s House in the building behind our church and from the outset many of our members have been deeply involved in their ministry.

St. Margaret’s House: Donations Requested

Feeling cool and clean during warm summer months is something everyone appreciates. We take for granted that we can take a refreshing shower and slip into clean clothes at the end of a hot day. But what if someone cannot afford to purchase personal hygiene products like deodorant? At St. Margaret's House, women can receive toiletries, do their laundry, and take a shower. It's all part of their mission to treat each person with dignity and respect. You can help! The Cathedral of Saint lames is collecting deodorant through the month of September! Donations may be left in the box near our front door.

Shortcakes on the Blacktop

Shortcakes on the Blacktop is the event the Cathedral of Saint James is known for in the community. Each June, we sell strawberry shortcake and ice cream as a fundraiser for a few nonprofits or causes in South Bend. All of the proceeds go to these organizations. Previous recipients have included St. Margaret’s House, Food Bank of Northern Indiana, A Rosie Place, and the Madison School Shoe Project.
