The Season Pentecost
September 27th, 2024
Notes & News from the Cathedral of Saint James, South Bend

Father Mark's Musings

Many churches worldwide observe the Season of Creation in September through the Feast Day of Saint Francis, a week from today, Friday, October 4th.

Although the blessing of the animals is one way of honoring St. Francis, and you are welcome to bring your pet or a picture of your pet to next Friday’s Noon Eucharist for a blessing during the service,  another way to honor St. Francis is through his focus on helping the poor.

Through parishioner Hal Culbertson, the Cathedral has participated in Crop Walk for several years.  The St. Joseph County CROP Hunger Walk is an annual event in South Bend aimed at raising funds to combat hunger locally and globally. This year's walk will take place this Sunday at 2 p.m., starting from Zion United Church of Christ, located directly across from Howard Park.  Follow this link to register for the walk or offer financial support to team Cathedral Saint James.

Adult Forum: The Rev. Canon Terri Bays, Ph.D.
Join us this Sunday, September 29th, at 9:15 a.m. to discuss Canon Terri's ordination path.  Canon Bays is the Missioner for Transitions and Formation with the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana.  Before starting work at the diocese, Terri divided her time between Holy Trinity and the Cathedral staff. Before becoming an Episcopal priest, Terri acquired a somewhat eclectic professional background that includes medieval English Literature, leadership within the Open Education movement, and study abroad program management.

This is part of our September series observing the 50th Anniversary of the Ordination of Women in the Episcopal Church.

Children's Formation Sunday Mornings
@ 9:15 am

Growing in our Worship: (Age 3 - Grade 2)

‘Growing in our Worship,’ or GIOW, is a Montessori and liturgically based curriculum. In GIOW, children are invited into a sacred and holy time of listening, praying, reflecting, and singing with other children their age and two adults from the congregation. Each class session includes a liturgy patterned after the one used in our Church service and reading and reflecting on a Bible Story from 'The Jesus Storybook Bible.

Storymakers (Grades 3 - 6)

'Storymakers' is a rich, imaginative curriculum that equips families and children to share in God’s story through storytelling and art. In the Fall of 2024, we will explore the Promised Land.
