The Season after Pentecost
September 13th, 2024
Notes & News from the Cathedral of Saint James, South Bend
And, we're off to a new program year...
It was good to grab a burger, informally catch up with parishioners, and talk about the new program year. We also gathered children and parents before the 10:30 am Eucharist for a program called Through the Years. Thanks to Catherine Craker and Kim Gray for your help with Through the Years, and thank you to all the volunteers who brought side dishes and desserts and those who grilled, set up, and cleaned up after the cookout. Here are a couple of pictures from last Sunday.

Adult Formation Mother Tina Velthuizen
Please join us this Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in the Conference Room as Mother Tina tells the story of her journey in the Episcopal church and her ordination process. We are observing the 50th Anniversary of the Ordination of Women to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church.
Gather and Grow Update
Work on the Cathedral's new addition is picking up pace. Crews have been on-site grading, bringing in gravel and equipment, and removing the sidewalk alongside the building where the excavation will be.
Meanwhile, thank you so much to everyone for your ongoing financial support on this project. We have received over $800,000 in pledges or gifts at this point and are grateful again every week when more checks come in.
Phase II is also well underway, with three committees actively working on plans for our worship spaces, kitchen, Cathedral Hall, and Landscape. Please let us know if you are interested in serving on any of these committees.

Vote Faithfully: Episcopalians Engaging the U.S. Election
September 18
Join Episcopal Parish Network and Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, along with guests from across the church, to explore the meaning behind voting from a theological perspective that centers this civic action as one expression of caring for one another and God’s creation. Our panelists will offer framing for healthy, faith-based civic engagement from the theoretical to the tangible, including addressing why it is important for Episcopal churches to leverage our resources to help our broader communities vote.
