Notes & News from the Cathedral of Saint James, South Bend
on the Weekend of the Seventh Sunday of Easter

The Dean's List

Gather & Grow
The Gather & Grow Capital Campaign will launch officially on Sunday, May 19: The Feast of Pentecost, which seems especially apt. Brief presentations outlining the campaign will be offered at both the 8 am and 10:30 am services, and we will hold a ceremonial ground breaking for the elevator addition at Noon. The Gather & Grow Capital Campaign will run through the end of June.

Shortcakes on the Blacktop
Meanwhile in our multi-tasking world, our parish-wide effort to bring the 30th Shortcakes on the Blacktop Strawberry Festival to life will be in full swing from now through our Festival Day: Thursday, June 6. Fliers are being distributed, tickets will be mailed late next week, and mixing, baking, and berry merry-making sign-up sheets are posted and ready to be filled up. See the graphic below for dates and times.

St. James Class of 2024

  • Abby McManus is graduating from Penn High School. She plans to attend IUSB in the fall.

  • Shela Raman-McCabe has earned her PhD in English from the University of Notre Dame.

  • Naviya Shuster-Little has earned her PhD in Chemistry from the University.of Kansas.

Summer Camp
Registration is currently open for Northern Indiana Summer Camp, which will take place at Camp Mack in Milford from June 9 -15. Summer Camp is a phenomenal experience of friendship, worship, fun, and - apparently this year - food! Summer Camp is open to children and teens who will be entering 3rd through 9th grade in the fall. Financial assistance is available for Cathedral members as needed. Follow this link to the Summer Camp website.

Pastoral News

  • Nan Noecker's daughter, Diana, son-in-law, Marvin, and granddaughter, Gianna, were involved in a traffic accident this afternoon. After each was evaluated in the emergency room at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, they have been sent home with bruises, rattled bones, and frayed nerves, but are otherwise okay. We thank God today for airbags and seatbelts because the car is a total loss.

  • Jen Mosley underwent successful back surgery yesterday at Beacon Memorial Hospital. Please keep her in your prayers as she begins her recovery.Rose

  • Rose Mary Zigler is back home at Trail Point Village after a hospital stay for treatment of an infection. There was some concern after arriving home that she was not faring well, but Deacon Anne reports that as of yesterday she is upright, talking, eating, and drinking. This is wonderful news. Please keep Rose Mary and Donnie in your prayers.

Diocese of Northern Indiana Spring Clergy Conference
Cathedral clergy will join our colleagues from around our diocese at the annual spring clergy retreat at the Lindenwood Retreat Center in Donaldson, Indiana from Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning. We are available in the event of a pastoral emergency but will out of the office.

Blessings,
Brian

Let us pray.

"See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation!
We are putting no obstacles in anyone's way."
2 Corinthians 6:2b-3a

Lord Jesus, you promised that wherever we gather in your name, you will surely be in our midst: Give us, we humbly ask, the will and the way to open fully the Cathedral of Saint James to all who would enter here that we, gathered in your presence, may continually grow in faith, hope, and love, and be moved by your Holy Spirit to carry on your work in the world around us; in your most holy Name we pray. Amen.
