Notes & News from the Cathedral of Saint James

The Dean's List

It's, um, snowing... really hard. I'll be brief.

We are aware down here at Cathedral HQ that eConnections has become a really long email. Steven Slaubaugh & Joe Anand-Obleton are working on a new format using Microsoft Sway which will, potentially, allow you to choose the content you wish to read from a menu rather than just dumping everything onto one page. MS Sway is not especially intuitive, so this may take a bit of time, but hopefully we will roll out a new, improved eConnections in the near future. In the meantime, slog on. Think of it as a Lenten discipline.

Anglican Digest

St. James parishioner Mary Lehman is offering for free, locally, a 35-year run from 1988 through 2022 (with two issues lacking) of a church publication called The Anglican Digest. The shelf space it would take up is about 26 inches. The Anglican Digest is a small-format (7 x 5 inches), quarterly magazine published from Eureka Springs, AR. To get an idea of its typical contents, see the full 64-page Spring 2023 issue online at: https://anglicandigest.org/issues/spring-2023/  If you're interested in the 35-year printed version, please see Mary nearly any Sunday at the 10:30 service or email her: mlehman@nd.edu.

Garden Boxes

Next up in the Butterfly Garden: Garden Boxes. Dr. Catherine Craker is proposing construction of six self-contained garden boxes with arched trellises where we will grow strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. The materials cost estimate for this project is just under $800. If anyone is interested in contributing to the project, please make checks payable to the Cathedral of Saint James, indicating Garden Boxes in the memo line. You may also give through the Givelify app or website, choosing the Care & Share option and specifying Garden Boxes using the message feature.

Blessings,
Brian

Lent 2023 Series:  "Benedictine Spirituality: A Lenten Journey of Reflection and Renewal"

This past week we kicked off our series on Benedictine Spirituality. Each person who attended received a copy of their own 'Rule of Saint Benedict.' If you weren't there this past Sunday, we have plenty left for you to pick up in the coming weeks.

We started our first session with prayer, followed by a discussion on the 'Preface' of the Rule of St. Benedict (pp. 9 -13). We concluded by watching and discussing the following video, which features the Rev. Dr. Maxwell Johnson, in this YouTube video 'Benedictine Spirituality, Spiritual Values of a Benedictine Oblate.'

Please join us this Sunday at 9:15 am for Adult Forum, when the Rev. Dr. Maxwell Johnson - a local Benedictine Oblate (and honorary canon at CSJ!) - will join us to talk about 'Opus Dei: The Work of God.'
