Dave Matthews died peacefully this evening in his room at Healthwin. He was 76. Dave was a member of the Cathedral choir for several years, a tireless promotor of Shortcakes on the Blacktop in the downtown community, and an all-around decent, kind, and gentle man. A severe car accident several years ago seemed to precipitate his decline, and the isolation of the pandemic followed closely upon by his need for nursing care meant he was unable to attend services in person at the Cathedral for several years. Blessedly, Deacon Anne saw him yesterday, administering ashes and sharing Holy Communion with him.

May Dave's soul, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace, and may light perpetual shine upon him.

Dave, in an act of giving completely consistent with his faith and values, offered his body for medical education, so funeral arrangements will be delayed pending the completion of that process.
