Hospitality: March 25
Bishop Doug Sparks will ordain The Rev. Robert Armidon to the Sacred Order of Priests at the Cathedral on Saturday, March 25. Soon-to-be Fr. Armidon will then take up his post as Priest-in-Charge of St. David's Church, Elkhart. Following the service, we would like to offer hospitality to all who attend. If you can lend a hand or offer a contribution of food or time, please contact Betsy VanderBurg.
Hospitality: Sunday Mornings
Hospitality is both a spiritual gift and an intentional practice. The Cathedral community is blessed with many people who willingly and joyfully tend to hospitality on Sunday mornings and at other times. Hospitality is an important part of the overall Sunday experience as a tangible sign of welcome and generosity not only to our own congregation, but to those who join us as visitors or guests.
A commitment to serve as a hospitality host is not, however, a lifetime appointment. As the author of the book of Ecclesiastes famously says, "There is a time for every purpose under heaven," which in community life might include "a time to step up, and a time to step back." One of our hospitality regulars, Norris Whitfield, has discerned that after many years of stepping up, she is now in a season of stepping back from Sunday hospitality. Please join me in thanking Norris for her wonderful and creative work to make Sunday mornings welcoming, tasty, and fun! (Remember Dad's root beer on Father's Day? That was an all-time classic.) Thank you, Norris!
So... there is now an opening in our regular Sunday morning hospitality rotation. Currently, hospitality hosts are called upon to serve once a month, but if more people agree to be in the rotation - or to partner with someone in the rotation - it will be less often. If you are interested, please let me - Fr. Brian - know so we can go over the mechanics of this ministry.
Hello Gorgeous!
Anne Gray is participating in a youth leadership program working with the nonprofit Hello Gorgeous. She and her team are working on a project that includes writing notes to put in care packages for the woman with cancer. She is looking for help writing these notes. Anne will place a stack of cards and markers at the back of the church this coming Sunday and would love for the congregation to take a few minutes to offer words of encouragement on these papers.
The Repose of Old Friends
This week we remember and uphold in prayer two former members of the Cathedral community.
Norma Jean Verduin entered into the nearer presence of God on Monday, March 13. And a committal service for Pamela Sue (Rerick) Barrett took place this afternoon at Riverview Cemetery. Deacon Anne Wietstock officiated.
May their souls, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace, and may light perpetual shine upon them.
Blessings,
Brian

Meets Downstairs in Cathedral Hall
All ages are invited to participate in our next intergenerational program on March 19, 2023. We'll reflect on the significance of dirt, read and discuss Genesis 2:4-9, 18-19, and make our own Easter lilies from supplies provided at each table.
There will be a brief time when adults and children split up for separate conversations on soil education, climate change, and the transformation of the Butterfly Garden soil.
Come be a part of this exploration of the wonderful things that God creates out of the dirt. We will meet from 9:15 - 10:15 am in Cathedral Hall.
Youth Confirmation | Sunday from 12 - 1:30 pm
This Sunday, Youth Confirmation will meet to discuss the vital role and ministry of all members (whether lay persons or clergy!) of the Episcopal Church. As usual, we will meet in the Youth Group room downstairs from 12 - 1:30 pm.
