The Weekend of the Last Sunday after the Epiphany
March 2, 2025

Palms to Ashes.

If you still have palm fronds from last year’s Palm Sunday service, please bring them this Sunday so we can transform them into ashes for this year’s Ash Wednesday services on March 5.

March 2nd @ 9:15 am Through the Years: Flower Bells
As part of our much anticipated longing for Spring, we will gather with Catherine Craker and Fr. Mark for  the making of our flower bells.

Ecumenical Bible Study.
This long-running, community-wide bible study group will dive into the sixteenth chapter of the Gospel According to Luke on Sunday, March 2, at 12:30 pm in the Cathedral Conference Room. All are welcome.

Presale tickets for a bowl is $8 and a full meal is $11, while tickets at the door are $10 and $14, respectively. For futher information or questions, please call (574) 360-3416.

Lent 2025.
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday: March 5. Holy Eucharist with the Imposition of Ashes will be offered at 7 am (spoken, Rite One) and 7 pm (choral, Rite Tw0).

Ash Wednesday is one of two appointed fast days in the Episcopal calendar (the other being Good Friday). By denying ourselves food, our physical hunger becomes a tangible sign of our spiritual hunger for God. A fast can be a total fast during which you eat nothing until the end of the fast (usually after the 7 pm Ash Wednesday service), or a partial or limited fast, during which you either eat minimally or simply. Those who need to eat on a regular basis for health reasons should consider this discipline carefully, perhaps choosing the simple approach rather than the total or partial approach. In any case, no one should fast from drinking water.

Lent is 40-day season in which the faithful are encouraged to disciplines of special acts of devotion and self-denial intended to draw us nearer in faith to God. We are once again offering several opportunities for personal and corporate observance of a holy Lent.

Let Us Pray: Called to Common Prayer. Continuing last year's practice, we are hoping to open the Cathedral for prayer every day during Lent. Volunteer officiants, readers, and musicians are needed lead the Daily Office. Click here to view the schedule and sign up. Click here for the readings and collects appointed for each service.

40 Days through Isaiah & Luke. A daily discipline of Scripture reading through the book of the prophet Isaiah and the Gospel according to Luke. Click here for the reading schedule.

A Lenten Century. Exercise is a great opportunity for contemplation and prayer. The Lenten Century is both an invitation and challenge to keep moving. 100 miles, 100 kilometers, or whatever number is right for you, let's get up and get going walking, running, cycling, swimming, or anything else. Click here for a Lenten Century log sheet.

Living Matthew 25. This community-wide effort offers dozens of opportunities from a host of sponsors from which to pick and choose. The Living Matthew 25 schedule is available here and is posted at several places at the Cathedral of Saint James.

On Sunday, March 9, Cathedral Administrator Canon Joe Anand-Obleton will present “Challenging the Systems of Our Beliefs: Part Two.” In this series, we are called to contemplate the roots of our beliefs (why we believe what we believe). Discussions  will encourage us to spread this knowledge and promote just peace. Attendance at Part 1 is not necessary to join us for Part 2.

Saturday, March 29 @ 7:30 pm
Faculty conductor Cynthia Katsarelis from Notre Dame’s Sacred Music program leads a special collaboration with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra and South African soprano Goitsemang Lehobye. Pizza Night.
Rocco's was a little raucous for a Thursday night, but we had a great time nonetheless. The Dining Out Group will gather in March and the next Pizza Night will happen in late April. Pizzeria suggestions are most welcome!

Construction.

Collect for the Last Sunday after the Epiphany
(March 2)

O God, who before the passion of your only begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
