The Baptism of Our Lord Jesus Christ

The Dean's List
Go Irish.
What a thrilling game between my Penn State Nittany Lions and the local football club! Congratulations to every Notre Dame Fighting Irish team member, faculty, staff, student, and fan. I have already ordered a Notre Dame quarter-zip pullover in Kelly green so I can cheer on the Irish in the National Championship Game on January 20.
Welcome Bishop Sparks.
This Sunday we welcome our bishop, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Douglas E Sparks, for his official visitation with the Cathedral community. Bishop Sparks was elected and consecrated to serve as the eighth bishop of Northern Indiana in 2016. He and his spouse of 36 years, Dana, are the parents of three adult children: Christina, Graham, and Gavin.
Holy Baptism.
Finnegan Patty Hillak, daughter of Christopher and Andrew Hillak, will be baptized on Sunday at the 10:30 am service. Please keep Finn & family in your prayers as we receive her—on Sunday and forevermore—into the Household of God. Finn will also turn a whopping seven months old on Sunday! There will be cake.
Annual Meeting.
Our annual parish meeting will be held next Sunday, January 19, 2025 (weather permitting) at Noon. We’ll start with a lunchtime pew picnic followed by Chapter, Junior Warden, and Convention delegate elections, plus presentations on the ongoing work of Gather & Grow committees on our worship space, Cathedral Hall, and landscaping. Please plan to attend!

Phillips Brooks (1835-1893),
Preacher of the Broad Church.
You may know Phillips Brooks as the author of “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” but in his day he was one of the most revered preachers in the United States (among Episcopalians and well beyond). In his eloquent preaching, moreover, he attempted to reconcile the various factions of nineteenth-century Episcopalian Christianity, advocating for ritual and theological inclusivity and thus shaping the modern church in deep ways. Dr. Tom Burman will lead the Adult Forum about this extraordinary man.
