The Weekend of the Second Sunday after the Epiphany:
January 19, 2025
The Dean's List
Annual Meeting.
O, the weather outside is changing,
but no plans need rearranging;
We'll be out of the wind and snow.
It's a go! It's a go! It's a go!
The Cathedral Executive Committee has been studying Sunday's forecast intently as the Annual Meeting came into the 48 hour window. It might snow (40% chance) and it will be cold (15 degrees and falling) and maybe a bit windy (NW, 10 - 20 mph), but it's northern Indiana in January; we can handle that. The really, really cold air is supposed to arrive overnight from Sunday into Monday; if it comes on an earlier bus, we may reconsider at the last minute, but as it stands, we're on for this Sunday beginning at Noon.
In addition to lunch - which is always a good idea - the Annual Meeting will also feature elections for Junior Warden, Chapter (Vestry), and Delegates to Diocesan Convention, plus a Treasurer's Report on the 2024 fiscal year and the 2025 budget that the Finance Committee recommended and Chapter adopted this past Tuesday, and presentations from each of our Gather & Grow subcommittees on the Sanctuary, the Kitchen & Cathedral Hall, and Landscaping.
Here are the nominees for the open leadership roles. To be eligible, nominees must be Members in Good Standing (Confirmed, at least 16 years of age, a contributor of record, and having attended worship at least three times in the previous year). Clergy spouses and staff members are ineligible to serve as Wardens or Chapter members, but may be elected to represent the Cathedral at Diocesan Convention.

Phillips Brooks (1835-1893),
Preacher of the Broad Church.
You may know Phillips Brooks as the author of “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” but in his day he was one of the most revered preachers in the United States (among Episcopalians and well beyond). In his eloquent preaching, moreover, he attempted to reconcile the various factions of nineteenth-century Episcopalian Christianity, advocating for ritual and theological inclusivity and thus shaping the modern church in deep ways. Dr. Tom Burman will lead the Adult Forum about this extraordinary man.

Tom's Ordination.
Thomas Anthony Gresik will be ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests tomorrow morning at the Cathedral of Saint James. The service begins at 10 am. A reception follows. All are welcome to attend.
Joe's Office.
Sometime in the next few weeks, construction workers will start cutting through the walls from the addition into our office and education building. Access to the upper level will open directly into what has been - for the past six years - the Cathedral Administrator's workspace, which will soon be reconstructed on the opposite side of the room. In the meantime, Joe Anand-Obleton (and Pup) have temporarily set up shop in a corner of the Conference Room. If you come a'callin' for Joe, that's where he'll be. Please be mindful and respectful of the sovereignty of their territory :)
Blessings,
Brian
