The Weekend of the First Sunday after Christmas Day
December 29, 2024

The Dean's List

Thank you!
My heartfelt gratitude goes to all who helped adorn the church for Christmas - especially Gay McCrea; all who sorted cookies and went caroling - especially Deacon Anne; and all who worked to make Christmas Eve and Christmas Day worship wonderful!

Would You Look at That.
Saint James Church has been talking about the need for an elevator since 1954; probably longer. The efforts of this generation are making it happen. Workers cut through the exterior walls of our office and education building on both the main and upper floors today where new corridors will join our existing spaces. While no official timeline has been given for completion, full accessibility by Easter 2025 is looking pretty promising!

Year-End Financial Stuff.
The Cathedral Finance Team wishes to remind our members and friends of the following things::

  • Please submit any check requests for expenses incurred in 2024 by Sunday, December 29; and

  • Please make any contributions you wish to have credited in 2024 by 5 pm on Monday, December 30.

Assistant to the Dean for Finance Steven Mast and Treasurer Peg Swadener will be in the Cathedral office on Tuesday, December 31. Thank you!

Holiday Office Hours.
Joe Anand-Obleton and Fr. Mark Hummell will be out of the office through Thursday, January 2. Other Cathedral staff members will be available by appointment on days when the office is scheduled to be open.

Monday, December 30: Financial Team hours by appointment.
Tuesday, December 31: hours by appointment
Wednesday, January 1: Office Closed
Thursday, January 2: hours by appointment

Christian Formation Holiday Hiatus.

Pastoral Notes.

  • Donnie Zigler remains inpatient at Memorial Hospital in South Bend after cracking vertebrae in his lower back in a fall around two weeks ago. He expects to transfer to Trailpoint Village (pending insurance approval) on South Ironwood Drive soon.

  • Elaine Mick is now continuing convalescence at Hubbard Hill in Elkhart following a recent hospital stay.

  • Mary Beth Wright is back home at Wood Ridge after a brief hospital stay. Mary Beth's scooter tipped over, sending her to the ground and cracking bone around her artificial hip in the process.  She will see the surgeon next week to learn if surgery is recommended.

Blessings,
Brian

Collect for the First Sunday after Christmas Day
(December 29)

Almighty God, you have poured upon us the new light of your incarnate Word: Grant that this light, enkindled in our hearts, may shine forth in our lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Collect for the Holy Name of
Our Lord Jesus Christ
