Notes & News from the Cathedral of Saint James, South Bend

Ordinary Time
The Season after Pentecost

The Dean's List

Thank You Berry Much!
The 30th edition of Shortcakes on the Blacktop is in the books! Thank you so much to everyone who who came out to lend a hand in one of the myriad jobs it takes to make the strawberry festival a success. Our particular thanks to our event co-chairs: Catherine Craker and Helene Dauerty-Randles.

Preliminary numbers are over $17k in gross sales and donations, which will translate to a net profit around $12k, which will be a distribution of about $4k each to Camp New Happenings, Clubhouse of St. Joseph County, and St. Margaret's House. That's a pretty good day's work!

But wait, there's MORE! There are lots of berries, shortcakes, and ice cream squares remaining that are available for sale! AND Tamisyn Grantz is making strawberry jam to sell. See the blurb below for more information.

And finally, a post-event review will be held on Sunday, June 23 following the 10:30 service.

Requiescat in Pace: Rosemary Zigler
Rosemary Zigler entered into the nearer presence of God this past Wednesday morning, June 5. May her soul, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace, and may light perpetual shine upon her. Please keep her husband, Donnie, in your prayers. A requiem Eucharist and interment will take place at the Cathedral probably the week after next in order to assure that her ashes will be present and so that Deacon Anne might at least be present following her upcoming surgery. Please watch for more information.

Deacon Anne's Surgery
Deacon Anne Wietstock will undergo surgery on her left should this coming Wednesday, June 12. She will be out of commission - at least as far as serving at the altar goes - for several weeks following. Please keep both Deacon Anne and Steve in your prayers.

Baby Hillak Coming Soon
Christopher & Andrew Hillak's daughter, Finn, is expected to make her entrance into this world no later than Monday, June 17. They will be traveling to North Carolina to be ready to receive Finn shortly after her birth. Please pray for safe travel, a safe delivery, a healthy baby, and with gratitude for a courageous and generous birth mother.

Cathedral Member Database Update
We are updating our database to ensure we have the most accurate and current information for our members and friends so we may better serve our congregation. Here's how you can help. Joe Anand-Obleton will staff a computer station in the back of the Cathedral following our 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. services on the following Sundays: June 16, July 7, and July 21. There you can verify your information directly, or you may fill out this online form any time.

Thank you for your help in this endeavor.

Summer Camp Week!
Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana Summer Camp for kids who will be entering third grade through ninth grade this fall will gather this week on the shores of Lake Waubee at Camp Alexander Mack. Please keep all of the campers, team members, and directors in your prayers as they taste and see that the Lord is good!

Blessings,
Brian

 Let us pray.

Lord Jesus, you promised that wherever we gather in your name, you will surely be in our midst: Give us, we humbly ask, the will and the way to open fully the Cathedral of Saint James to all who would enter here that we, gathered in your presence, may continually grow in faith, hope, and love, and be moved by your Holy Spirit to carry on your work in the world around us; in your most holy Name we pray. Amen.

Thank you to all who attended cottage meetings last weekend. And a special word of thanks to Chau-Ly Phan, Tina Velthuizen, and Nancy Ross for an amazing array of delicious desserts! For those who were unable to attend a cottage meeting, a mailing will go out this week with information about the project and the capital campaign. More detailed information is available on the Gather & Grow website which is available through the Cathedral webpage: stjamessouthbend.org.

Subcontractor bids on various aspects of the elevator addition are now coming in. The Gather & Grow Building Committee will convene soon to review bids with our General Contractor. Please pray for sharp pencils, good possibilities, and generous benefactors.
