Welcome to the Cathedral of Saint James
I was asked not so very long ago to hazard a guess about the percentage of the Cathedral congregation who are LGBTQ+. My answer: "More than you think, and more than you or I will ever actually know." It's a safe bet. Since St. Luke recorded Mary's Magnificat in his telling of the Gospel in which the mighty are cast down and the lowly raised up, the Church has wrestled with the expansive implications of God's love with respect to normative hierarchies and assumptions that are usually, if not always, more cultural than Biblical. Since the Enlightenment, that wrestling has included major challenges within the Church concerning the morality of slavery, the full humanity and inclusion of black, brown, and indigenous persons, the full humanity and inclusion of women, and the full humanity and inclusion of LGBTQ+ persons, to name a few. At every turn, Biblical arguments were made - and continue to be made - to support subjugation and uphold the status quo, which usually boils down to preservation of money and/or power. And at every turn, those seeking to know the unfathomable depth of God's love and to be fully known and received as children of God, have been met with hostility, whether actively or passively. The Church, strive though we may to walk in love as Christ loves us, has not, historically, been a particularly safe place to tell your whole story. May God bless those who are out, and may God bless those who, for any reason, choose to remain anonymous; each carries a burden, and each, most certainly, carries the light of Christ.

Cathedral Member Database Update
We are updating our database to ensure we have the most accurate and current information for our members and friends so we may better serve our congregation. Here's how you can help. Joe Anand-Obleton will staff a computer station in the back of the Cathedral following our 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. services on the following Sundays: June 2, June 16, July 7, and July 21. There you can verify your information directly, or you may fill out this online form any time.

Thank you for your help in this endeavor.

Raising Cane Bible Study Hiatus
Our Wednesday morning call-in Bible Study, Raising Cane, is taking a break for awhile. We will consider this and other formats and times before announcing what comes next. One thing is for sure: we value having a mid-week Bible study group, so stay tuned!

Blessings,
Brian
