Notes & News from the Cathedral of Saint James, South Bend

Ordinary Time
The Season after Pentecost

The Dean's List

Baseball.
The Cathedral has 40 tickets for the South Bend Cubs vs. Quad Cities River Bandits game on Sunday, July 21 at 2:05 pm. We’ll be in The Landing picnic area for a ballyard feast!Tickets ($32 each) include seating in picnic area and stadium, a South Bend Cubs baseball cap, and a 2-hour Classic Ballpark Buffet: grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, chips, Stouffer's Mac and Cheese, cookies, and beverages (lemonade, water and soda). A sign-up sheet is in the back of the church. Reduced cost tickets are available; just ask Fr. Brian.

Funeral.
A Requiem Eucharist for Rosemary Zigler will be held on Wednesday, June 19 at 6 pm at the Cathedral. She will be interred in the Cathedral columbarium. A reception will follow.

Requiescat in Pace.
Mary Jo Campbell, a long-time Cathedral parishioner and all-around delightful person, died last Sunday, June 9, at the Living Wisdom Center of Hubbard Hill in Elkhart. She was 87. May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace, and may light perpetual shine upon her. The family is planning a private memorial service at a future date. Here is a link to her obituary.

Storytelling.
Adult Forum in July will feature LGBTQ+ Voices from the Cathedral community sharing their stories of sorrow and struggle, joy, triumph, and love. Come hear from those who are near and dear to us. 9:15 am each Sunday in July in the Conference Room.

New Staff Member.
Fr. Mark Hummell arrives in South Bend this week, joining (at long last) his husband, Peter Christenson for a new chapter in their lives. Fr. Mark will join Team Cathedral on July 1 as our part-time Assistant for Formation. While Fr. Brian is away on sabbatical, Fr. Mark will take the Cathedral reigns as Priest-in-Residence.

Welcome to the World!
Finnegan Patty Hillak was born in North Carolina five days ahead of schedule on Wednesday, June 12, entering the world at 8 lbs 11 oz and 20.75”. Her early arrival meant Christopher and Andrew were not present for her birth, but they got there as quickly as the ground between here and there could be covered safely in a car. Congratulations!

Cathedral Member Database Update
We are updating our database to ensure we have the most accurate and current information for our members and friends so we may better serve our congregation. Here's how you can help. Joe Anand-Obleton will staff a computer station in the back of the Cathedral following our 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. services on the following Sundays: June 16, July 7, and July 21. There you can verify your information directly, or you may fill out this online form any time.

Thank you for your help in this endeavor.

The Gather & Grow Building Committee met this week with our general contractor to review the bid package for the elevator addition. This information next goes to the Cathedral Finance committee and Chapter for review and approval. Both groups will meet on Tuesday for this purpose, so we look forward to sharing more information very soon.

 Let us pray.

Lord Jesus, you promised that wherever we gather in your name, you will surely be in our midst: Give us, we humbly ask, the will and the way to open fully the Cathedral of Saint James to all who would enter here that we, gathered in your presence, may continually grow in faith, hope, and love, and be moved by your Holy Spirit to carry on your work in the world around us; in your most holy Name we pray. Amen.
