Things are going a bit slower than we'd hoped, but we ARE making progress! We're finalizing numbers and assembling our fundraising team and strategies. We have already receive a couple of grants, and have another in the works that requires us to wait a bit longer before we sign contracts and start building our elevator. But we're excited, and we're getting things lined up - so keep watching for updates!

The Dean's List

Just a short note tonight. This Sunday we will be sharing the Holy Eucharist with the congregation at Saint Paul's Church, Mishawaka. This is - to my knowledge - the first instance of a new offering in our diocese known as Communion by Extension. When a congregation is unable to retain the services of a priest, Communion by Extension allows that congregation to request a neighboring congregation to send consecrated bread and wine for Holy Communion, thereby extending the altar rail, so to speak. While Fr. Nate Warne is on leave, the Cathedral will extend Holy Communion to Saint Paul's twice: once this weekend, and a second time on Sunday, March 17. Bread and wine, which were consecrated at the Noon Eucharist today, will be carried by a Designated Eucharistic Visitor who has been trained in this process - Nan Noecker in our case - to Saint Paul's. On Sunday Morning, Nan will be present with the congregation at Saint Paul's during a 9:00 AM service of Morning Prayer, at the conclusion of which she will lead special prayers before offering Holy Communion to those gathered. This is an interesting, adaptive innovation the Bishop Sparks based on practices in the dioceses of Ohio and Iowa. As the liturgy proclaims, "We who are many are one body, because we all share one bread, one cup." May it be so.

Blessings,
Brian
