The Dean's List

This is a Big Deal. Please Come!
This Sunday Bishop Sparks will baptize one person, confirm sixteen people, and receive two others into our Communion. This is not only an important day in their lives, it is a joyful and wonderful day in the life of the Cathedral community! As a sacramental church, we recognize inward and spiritual grace through outward and visible signs. This particular sign speaks powerfully of abundant faith, life, and energy in our midst. Come join the celebration!

And, there will be cake.

Lenten "Change the World" Ingathering
If you took a glass sanctuary lamp container and collected money as part of your Lenten observance, please bring it with you this Sunday for our ingathering. Proceeds - you may recall - will go to Episcopal Relief & Development's refugee relief program to help with the crisis in  Europe created by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Teacher of the Year
Wendy Chapman is the Teacher of the Year at James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend. Congratulations!

Shortcakes on the Blacktop
Catherine Craker, Chau-Ly Phan, and the Shortcakes team are hard at work in the run-up to SOTB 2023, which will take place on Thursday, June 8. Proceeds from this year's festival will benefit St. Margaret's House, Chiara Home, and Dismas House. The Clergy Discretionary Fund will also receive proceeds in excess of a minimum $12,000 fundraising threshold. The May Care & Share will go towards the purchase ingredients and supplies. Kitchen sanitizing, mixing, and baking at First Presbyterian Church will take place towards the end of May. Strawberry slicing will happen at FPC on Wednesday, June 7. And then, on the 8th, we'll need as many volunteers as we can get for a host of jobs from ticket sales to shortcake assembly to delivery. Watch for information coming soon on how to get involved.

One major change this year: we will NOT be mailing tickets to every person on the Cathedral mailing list with the expectation that you purchase, sell, or return them. Generally speaking, feedback indicated that people didn't like this practice. Like, at all. Everyone WILL receive a letter letting you know that tickets are available, how to get them, and encouraging your evangelism of the most delicious fundraiser in the greater Michiana region.

Mini-Sabbatical Coming Soon
Tamisyn and I will be off for a three-week mini-sabbatical from May 9 through May 31. After flying into Porto, Portugal on May 11, will walk 99 miles of the Camino Portugues from A Guarda, Spain to Santiago de Compostela before returning to Porto for a few days. Once back, we're heading to the Indy 500 over Memorial Day weekend. Recommendations for ear protection will be gratefully received.

While we are away, Deacon Anne Wietstock, Canon Tina Velthuizen, and Bishop Frank Gray will be leading worship and tending to the pastoral needs of the congregation.

Blessings, all.
Brian
