Notes & News from the Cathedral of Saint James
January 13, 2023
The Dean's List
Friday the 13th. Just for fun, here is a brief History Channel article on superstitions surrounding Friday the 13th. In Episcopal Church life, today is the Lesser Feast of Hilary of Poitiers who, so far as I know, never had any noteworthy bad luck on Friday the 13th.
Just to be on the safe side, don't walk under any ladders upon which sits a black cat holding a broken mirror. I mean, really, that's just asking for trouble.
Renewal. Thank you to all who participated in last Sunday's exercise. Senior Warden Liz Burman collected approximately 55 responses and has been very impressed thus far by what she's read. Liz will compile the information for feedback to the Chapter and congregation, which we will publish once it is available. In the meantime, if you were not here this past Sunday or would like to submit additional comments upon further reflection, click here to open the online form. We will also have a paper version of this form at the back of the Church this Sunday and next Sunday.
Service Opportunity: Cultivate. Team CSJ will be volunteering at Cultivate Food Rescue on Thursday, January 26 from 9 am - 11 am. Anyone interested in lending a hand should contact Liz Burman.
SMH Winter Walk. St. Margaret's House's annual Winter Walk is coming up on Sunday, February 19, which would have been Deacon Joe Illes' 97th birthday. So, whether you knew him or not... let's go Team Joe for Winter Walk this year! Mark the date on your calendar, raise some money however you wish to do it, and let's turn out big on the 19th! I'll see if we can figure out some cool Cathedral Team Joe swag for the occasion :)
2023 Flower Sponsorships. The flowers that adorn our worship space on Sunday mornings are offered by members of the Cathedral community. Flower sponsorships are usually made in memory or honor of loved ones, or in thanksgiving for special blessings in the donor's life.
A sign-up sheet for Sunday flower sponsorships has been placed on a table at the back of the Cathedral and also posted online here. A Sunday altar flower sponsorship is still only $55. Thank you so much to Wygant Florist for their excellent work!
Blessings, all.
