The Season after Pentecost

July 5, 2024
Notes & News from the Cathedral of Saint James, South Bend

The Dean's List

Dave Miller. After several weeks in hospitals and nursing homes determining diagnoses, prognoses, and appropriate levels of care, long time Cathedral member Dave Miller is now receiving end of life care at the Center for Hospice Care in Mishawaka. Please keep Dave in your prayers as he enters into the nearer presence of Jesus. Please pray for his wife of forty-eight years, Alice, as well.

Distribution of SOTB Proceeds. Proceeds from this year's Shortcakes on the Blacktop strawberry festival will be given to this year's recipients during announcements at the 10:30 service on Sunday, July 14. Please join us in giving thanks for the amazing ministries of St. Margaret's House, Clubhouse of St. Joseph County, and New Happenings Ministries.

Capital Campaign through Saint James Sunday. By now, everyone on our mailing list should have received a letter and information on the Gather & Grow capital campaign along with a pledge card. We ask your prayerful consideration of financial support with a gift or pledge. We will celebrate the conclusion of the active phase of the Gather & Grow campaign on Saint James Sunday - July 21 - at both the 8 am and 10:30 am services.

If you would like to discuss your gift or pledge personally with Fr. Brian or any other member of the Gather & Grow capital campaign team, please send an email to me here or fill out a meeting request card located in the pew racks.

Also - just to be clear - the conclusion of the active phase of the Gather & Grow capital campaign does not mean we won't receive gifts or pledges after that date. Generosity knows no bounds.

And finally, if you did not receive the mailing, it is because you have either already pledged or you are not on our mailing list. If it is the latter, please send an email to Joe Anand-Obleton asking to be added to the mailing list OR talk to him after worship on Sunday, July 14 or Sunday, July 28 when he will have his computer set up at the back of the church to update the Cathedral database.

Baseball. There are three tickets left for the Cathedral's outing to see the South Bend Cubs vs. Quad Cities River Bandits on Saint James Sunday, July 21 at 2:05 pm. To reserve you spot today, send an email to Fr. Brian with your name and how many tickets you wish to reserve. Or check out the list on the back table at the church on Sunday to see if any spots remain :)

Got tickets? Please pay for tickets on or before July 21 online through Givelify or in person by cash in an envelope marked Baseball Tickets or write a check to the Cathedral of Saint James with Baseball Tickets in the memo line. Tickets are $32 each. If paying online, please consider adding $1 per ticket to cover administrative fees. Reduced cost tickets are available; just ask Fr. Brian.

Storytelling. Throughout July, the Sunday morning Adult Forum will feature LGBTQ+ Voices from the Cathedral community sharing their stories of sorrow and struggle, joy, triumph, and love. Come hear from those who are near and dear to us. 9:15 am each Sunday in the Conference Room. This week: Cindy Laney - "Journeys on the Allyship;" and Scott Peters.

Can't be there in person? Cindy Laney has consented to online participation via Zoom. Here is the link for Sunday's meeting. We will check with the individual speakers about subsequent presentations.

Welcome, Fr. Mark Hummell. Fr. Mark is in the house. He will preach on Sunday, July 14, preside on Sunday, July 21, and then do it all from August 1 through December 1. Welcome Fr. Mark!

Blessings,
Brian
