The Windows of Saint James

RoseWindow

The windows are among the most dramatic feature of this beautiful worship center. Four are from the Tiffany Studios of Chicago: the rose window over the rear door (a gift of the Peter Studebaker family; it was originally on display at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and was designed by Agnes Northrop of the Tiffany Studios); the Foote Window (next to the Angel Window) on the congregations' left and two panels on the north side of the nave near the rear - the Meyer Windows. In addition, the St. James Window which was located above the original altar was removed and placed in storage during the 1964 renovations. We are hoping to restore this window and include it in the planned addition to the Cathedral as part of the 2013 Heritage and Hope Capital Campaign. The Nativity Window, on the congregation's right in the front of the church was donated in 1911 and was designed and made in the Franz Mayer & Company studios in Munich Germany. The Angel Window (Kuhns Memorial Window) on the congregation's left is a 1926 Thomas A. O'Shaughnessy creation from the Chicago O'Shaughnessy-Kugel Studio in Chicago.

The Foote Memorial Window (left) was another one of the windows designed and installed by the Tiffany Studios. The Kuhns Memorial Window (right) is done in the style of copper-foiling rather than lead caming as is the case with all of the other windows in the Cathedral. This window is a 1926 Thomas A.
